3rd September 2009: The creative angle.
As a creative director I am always looking to further develop the visual side of our website designs. When I start a new job I am looking to find that hook that helps the organisation immediately impact their target audience. It could be finding the right colour/colours, maybe the way the logo or a photo fits within the header of the page that gives it the right feel.
Regardless of all other design aspects it is the navigation that is the true key to an easy-to-engage-with website. If you can't find what you are looking for with a quick glance, you may not bother at all.
Sometimes websites will concentrate on wowing you with big visual slaps like large animations but considering the number of sites we look at every day we tend to look beyond this for the information we really want. In other cases, websites can be so cluttered or unattractive that you can feel like you've been hit by a truck! Finding the right balance between visual aesthetics and ease of use is what I look for when I design a website.
Those are just a few of my thoughts. More to come at some point...
